Wind Ratings & Why It's Important

When choosing a shade shed, don’t overlook wind ratings. They’re key to keeping your shed safe and long-lasting.

  • N1: For non-cyclone areas, handling winds up to 122 km/h. Basic bracing is enough.

  • C1: For cyclone-prone areas, designed for winds up to 180 km/h. Needs serious reinforcement.

Australia’s weather can be unpredictable, so our sheds are built to C1 and C2 standards, giving you peace of mind no matter where you live.

Bottom line: If you want a shed that’s tough, durable, and future-proof, always check the wind rating and when in doubt, go C-rated.

Wind Ratings & Why It's Important

You may not think too much of the wind ratings when comparing shade sheds but it's actually extremely important. Depending on where you live, you may be required to have a cyclone-rated structure or you may just want a stronger structure that lasts the test of time.

Are N1 & C1 classifications the same?

In short, no. N1 classification is for non-cyclonic wind regions, meaning areas that are very low hazard and may experience wind speeds up to 122km/h. According to the Australian Standards, like AS 4055, structures that are classed as N1 require basic bracing and are suitable for heavy sheltered areas with minimal winds.

C1 classification is for cyclone prone areas, typically areas that may experience winds of up to 180km/h. Any structures classed in C1 or higher rating requires significant structural reinforcement to ensure it is up to the Australian Standards.

Australia experiences a lot of storms and unpredictable weather, including cyclones which is why our shades are engineered for C1 and C2 ratings. So no matter where you are in Australia you have the toughest shade shed required.

In summary, when choosing which shade shed to go with it's important to ask the wind rating and the classification. In short:

  • N- Ratings - are for non-cyclonic areas
  • C-ratings - are for cyclonic areas

If you live in a region that experiences tropical storms or cyclones (or you just want a tougher structure), opting for a C-rated shade shed is a smart, future-proof choice.
